Inspired by the fat sounding single coil guitars of the early 60s, the '61 Special Set was developed. The winding wire used is the golden yellow Heavy Formvar wire, exactly as it was used in the 50s.
 
A clear, fat sound with a bell-like soft overtone spectrum characterizes this pickup.
The '61 Special is fitted with historically correct AlNiCo V magnets and the coil is, of course, hand-wound for increased dynamic response.
DC resistances range from 6.0 to 6.4 kΩ (depending on position), and the center position is reversed by default to keep the guitar hum-free in the intermediate positions; if desired, the center pickup can also be wound and magnetized regularly.
